'This House believes that China needs to be a democracy by 2025 in order to become a truly global power'
Almost 100 audience members came along to hear;
- Dr Kerry Brown Senior Fellow, Asia Programme, Chatham House, and Editor, China Ethos, author of 'Friends and Enemies, The Past, Present and Future of the Communist Party'
- Jonathan Fenby is a British journalist, and was editor of The Observer newspaper from 1993-1995. He wrote The Penguin History of Modern China 1850-2008, which was published in June.
- Lili Zhao is the managing editor of China Ethos.
- Jonsson Li, President of British Chinese Youth Federation, Chair of UK China Chamber of Finance and Investment, a visiting Professor at Renmin University of China.
- James Kynge is Editor of China Confidential, a specialist research service at the Financial Times that focuses on the Chinese economy;
and Jack Yu who joined the Law Society of England and Wales in early 2009 as policy advisor for North Asia, having previously worked for the British Council in Chongqing, Guangzhou and its UK headquarters for nine years in a variety of management and specialist roles.
The event was a great success as well as being a thoroughly enjoyable evening for all concerned.
